⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Book Review - "set for life" by scott trench

Updated: Dec 26, 2019

Theme of the book: Becoming financial independent.

The book: Set For Life by Scott Trench

Located: I picked this up at a local library and rented it for 3 weeks. If you library doesn't stock it request them to or pick one up for yourself! It's worth the money!

Description: The book is a essentially a guide on how to get financially independent. It addresses mindset regarding frugality, steps it takes and what to do once you have reached those steps!

My thoughts: This book was fantastic! Hands down one of the best personal finance books I have read. Scott is very good about addressing the fact that when people focus on getting financially free they typically fail to address the large ticket items.

It is very realistic and blunt when needed. This book doesn't sugarcoat things, nor does it make the concepts out of reach. Really it is a simple concepts that we glaze over because of habit and lack of acknowledgement.

This is a must read for anyone. Whether or not you are trying to achieve financial freedom, although after reading you might change your mind about that. It gives practical advice that if you care to use will benefit you and if you don't at least you recognize the consequences of your choices.

If you are looking for some structure in your journey to financial freedom this book is what you need to read! It has milestone goals and what to do when you get to those milestones, and why you need to hit them in the first place.

Recommend? Yes, no questions asked! It is for whoever no matter what your goal is. If money affects your life in anyway this book gives a good perspective on what it can do and how your money can affect your life.

Critique: This is a difficult book to critique. It was written very conversationally and it doesn't use overspecialized jargon to make you feel like an idiot, thus it is an awesome book!

One critique that I can barely argue is I wish when reaching the third milestone/financial freedom there were real life examples of how people spread out there portfolios. It mentions not everyone uses index funds but I would like to see specific examples of individuals and how it looked for them. It states the options are endless and to specialize in things you are familiar/comfortable with, so that helps.

I am so far away from the third milestone that it probably doesn't matter at this point. I just like to have knowledge of more options so when opportunities present themselves I have some background. However I will probably get that background by finishing the first two milestones.

This book easily gets a 5 Star review! It is a recommended read for anyone and should honestly be required for high school students to read in school!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

🙏 Thank you for reading! Have you read it? Would you read it even if you aren't concerned about finances? What type of financial education have you experienced? 📖
