Theme of the book: Mallika Chopra's life story and ways she lives with intent.
The book: Living with Intent by Mallika Chopra
Located: I discovered this book at my favorite store... Dollar Tree (everything is one dollar!). It seemed like a good book at the time and the name Chopra was very familiar to me.
Description: The book is essentially a diary or autobiography about Mallika Chopra and her daily life. It used her life stories to relate to different practices.
The book is broken down into sections which describes her journey to intent. Mallika Chopra is the daughter of Deepak Chopra whom is well known in the alternative medicine arena. He helped instill these ideas into her life, the book is about how she personally developed skills for herself.
At the end of each section is an exercise for you to do. These are then outlined in the back of the book as an overview and there is space to write down your daily intents.
My thoughts: This book was so-so for me. I don't regret reading it but it is not one I will likely read again. For a reasonably small book it took me awhile to read. I don't think I connected with the content as well for some reason or it just didn't peak my interest.
Please keep in mind I am not a mother and don't have a father that is known famously so maybe I just didn't connect with her story. I found the exercises to be the most beneficial part of the book. They are simple and mentioned in a lot of other self-help material so it wasn't necessarily new information but it was a nice refresher.
One thing to note is that it does give you a very personal perspective which is interesting to see from the offspring of a very famously known self-help/alternative medicine person - Deepak Chopra. It helped me realize everyone is on this journey and we all have a life to live. Just because your dad is almost all knowing doesn't mean that you are just endowed with his gifts, you still have to utilize the knowledge you have learned. It's a lot like the discussion of theory - in theory you should be in expert, in practice that's a whole other ball game.
Recommend? Would I recommend this book? Maybe. If you are looking for more of a life story, I sure would. It is always nice to get a new perspective. Her perspective is good if you need some reassurance in your journey that not everything will go right, and that is okay. If you are looking for something with more personal practice and more depth, no I would suggest a different book.
Critique: I just had a hard time connecting to the story and I felt like the practices were added in after writing the book to give it more of a reason. Again it wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't for me. It did not engage my mind as much as I wanted.
All-in-all I would give this book a 3 Star review! It is a good book if you need to get away from your own life for a second and recognize other people struggle too, even people who were raised around this topic.⭐⭐⭐
🙏 Thank you for reading! Do you live everyday with intent? What mundane things in life distract you from your desires? What kind of practices do you do to get back on track? 📖
