Affirmations are a way of telling yourself a story that you want to become reality. We are telling ourselves affirmations every single day without even realizing it.
Two Minds - One Body
Our brains are constantly thinking and working away at creating our reality. We have two minds, those being conscious and subconscious. The difference between our conscious and subconscious minds are that we can only control one of them - our conscious mind.
Every conscious input we make is being analyzed in our subconscious mind. The problem is we can't tell our subconscious mind how to feel. I think of it like an equation you have an input and based on that input you receive your output. Your subconscious mind is a multiplier and will look for opportunities to multiply the input.
Let's look at a few examples:
Conscious Mind: "I'm fat."
Subconscious Mind: "How do we multiply that input?"
- Notice more unhealthy foods
- Feel more lethargic
- Less motivated
- You look in the mirror and search for flaws
or
Conscious Mind: "I'm healthy."
Subconscious Mind: "How do we multiply that input?"
- Notice more healthy foods
- You feel energetic
- More motivated
- You look in the mirror and search for strengths
These examples help show how our two minds work together. Which helps us to realize why our input is so IMPORTANT! That is where Affirmations come into play!
Affirmations FAQ
What are Affirmations?
- Simply put: things we repeat to ourselves verbally or internally. In other words it's the voice always in your head.
Can I get some examples?
- I am happy.
- I am sad.
- I am fat.
- I am skinny.
- I am a bad ass b.
- I am a loser.
- It's whatever you tell yourself that you are.
If I start saying them do I have to believe it?
- Not necessarily. The reason we put affirmations in the present tense is our subconscious mind doesn't understand time or value. It doesn't necessarily know whether what we are saying is true or not. It just looks for more of what we are inputting.
I'm saying it but I don't feel it, is it working?
- Hopefully. One thing I have noticed is if I do outrageous affirmations that I don't believe I tend to think about why I don't believe in them. For example, "I am a millionaire." then I think to my bank account and my assets and start calculating why I am not a millionaire.
That is extremely counter productive... Now my subconscious mind is thinking about my current account balance, debts and so forth.
I find I have to adjust the affirmations to fit my goals. Thus I would change this one to "I am well on my way to becoming a millionaire." I do that because it changes my frame of mind to money coming in and showing gratitude for all of the +positive numbers in my bank account.
How long does it take to see results?
- I've seen results same day and I've seen results years later. It isn't so much about getting that exact thing it is more about changing your mindset. If you mind is constantly negative that is what you will get more of. If it is constantly positive then you will get more positivity. It is based on your input and adapting that to fit your dreams and goals. Again this isn't a one time fix it. This is a continued practice that helps shift your mind to achieve.
